The Artist:
David
W. Grote grew up on a Wisconsin Dairy Farm on the edge of the Chequamegon National Forest near Medford.
David studied at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received a B.F.A. in creative
arts from Mount Scenario College. He then continued his education receiving an M.F.A.in painting and ceramics from Idaho State
University . Currently David lives on a 14 acre wooded farm in Northern Wisconsin where vine covered arbors and gardens
flourish in the sandy soil of the pine barrens. There, he raises colourful Icelandic Sheep known for their luxuriant
dual coated fleece, rare domesticated German Saxony Ducks, Icelandic Chickens and French Marans Chickens famous for their
gourmet brick-red colored eggs. David incorporates the eggs in a Damar Varnish mixture as a paint medium in some of his art.
David’s work has been on display in several group and one man shows. His work hangs
in the homes of private collectors through out Wisconsin, Minnesota and across the country. David has taught Gallery Management,
Painting, Drawing and Art Appreciation at Mount Scenario College, Beginning Painting Classes at Idaho State University for
the Continuing Education Department, and served as Assistant Professor for the University of Wisconsin in Extension as 4-H
Youth Development Agent in Ashland County Wisconsin for nine years. In the summer of 2005 David built his painting studio
in a traditional style of a Swedish Falun Red outbuilding where he now works as a full time Artist and part-time Shepherd.
